Kidney stones? Drink more water!

If you’ve ever had them you will not forget the experience: excruciating pain in the sides and in the back that may spread through your lower abdomen and groin. But the good news is that they can easily be prevented. The number one risk factor for kidney stones is not drinking enough water.

According to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, one out of ten Canadians will have a kidney stone at some point in their life.

What causes kidney stones? A diet high in sugar, not exercising, taking certain medications, eating non-fermented soy, calcium or magnesium deficiency and drinking fluoridated water are some of the causes.

The National Kidney Foundation recommends drinking more than 12 glasses of water a day, but a simpler way to know if you are drinking enough water is to check the color of your urine; you want your urine to be a very light, pale yellow (darker urine is more concentrated).

Best Water has a variety of water ionizers and filters to fit every budget and every lifestyle to ensure that you are drinking lots of high-quality water daily. One of the greatest benefits that we hear from our clients is that water from an ionizer tastes so good, that they naturally end up drinking a lot more than they previously did.
